About The Position

Activity Specialists play an essential role in achieving the Boys & Girls Club of Central Illinois (BGCCIL) mission by serving as positive role models, mentors, and activity leaders to a diverse group of youth aged 6 to 18. They assist youth in acquiring developmental assets for academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships.
  • Demonstrated caring and respect exhibited toward Members.
  • Ability to relate to the general public, parents and BGCCIL Members in a friendly, positive, and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey BGCCIL policies and procedures to Members, and to implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies.
  • Ability to organize and supervise Members to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Valid Illinois Drivers License.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, energy and commitment in personal contact with Members, parents, supervisors and the general public.

  • Ability to drive motor vehicle preferred (with valid IL drivers license).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Youth for Success: Learn names, develop positive relationships, implement fun activities, provide guidance and mentoring, support Club Rules, respect confidentiality, maintain professionalism.
  • Implementing & Assisting with Planning, Evaluating Programming and Curriculum: Implement fun activities, assist with special events, track and report program participation, recommend modifications.
  • Maintain Order & Safety: Maintain order and control, enforce rules, ensure health and safety, maintain a clean and safe environment, ensure proper care of BGCCIL property.
  • Daily Duties: Implement standard operating procedures for program areas, assist with student assignments during Power Hour, recruit and engage youth, run activities, address discipline situations, foster positive youth development relationships, track attendance and activities, serve as a positive force, perform other duties as assigned.
  • Additional Accountabilities: Maintain daily contact with staff and volunteers, cultivate relationships with Members, maintain external contact with community groups, schools, and parents, publicize the club.
