About The Position

The Activity Specialist is responsible for helping participants grow artistically. This role involves developing, teaching, and maintaining various scheduled activities, including arts, theater, music, dance, and poetry. The specialist will organize exhibitions, performances, and recitals, assist with participant recruitment and retention, and maintain program-related materials like bulletin boards and flyers. Additionally, the role requires accompanying participants on trips, maintaining attendance records, co-facilitating parent meetings, ensuring the cleanliness of program spaces, and reporting to the Program Director. The position is part-time with specific evening and some weekend hours, with extended hours during August-September.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • 1 year experience in the field and high level of knowledge in Creative Arts.
  • Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings.
  • Experience with lesson plan development.
  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
  • Ability to move for long periods, providing instruction.
  • Ability to travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Submit to background checks in compliance with DOE, DYCD, DOH and SACC regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Working towards or possessing AA or BA degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, teaching, and maintaining scheduled activities.
  • Developing and maintaining arts, theater, music, dance, and poetry programs.
  • Organizing and creating art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals, and poetry jams.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and retention of participants.
  • Maintaining site bulletin boards and producing flyers for events.
  • Organizing and creating program performances costumes.
  • Accompanying participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
  • Maintaining daily attendance for all courses.
  • Co-facilitating Parent Meetings.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and presence of all of the space used by the program participant.
  • Keeping the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
  • Submitting weekly reports to the Program Director on a timely basis.
  • Attending all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
  • Assisting other staff when needed.
