About The Position

This position is responsible to plan, organize, develop and implement the overall operation of the Activity Department. The role ensures an ongoing program of activities meets the needs and interests of each resident. The Activity Manager provides daily oversight over the service program and training and supervision under the general direction of the Administrator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with elderly or disabled populations, preferably in a long-term care setting; OR Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years, one (1) of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting.
  • Must be certified as an Activity Director by the State of Wisconsin or hold certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), as required by applicable regulations.
  • Must successfully pass criminal and caregiver background checks.
  • Knowledge of planning activities and services for elderly and/or disabled residents.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing home administration principles and practices, including applicable local and state laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and policies governing nursing services and nursing home operations.
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to the job, including Wisconsin Statutes and administration codes and Federal Regulations.
  • Knowledge of electronic records systems and general office technologies (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, as well as general knowledge of standard office procedures, equipment, and office assistance techniques.
  • Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) and its proper use.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident care information and ensure resident rights and privacy are protected.
  • Ability to create and maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and supportive environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and interpersonally, with residents, families, visitors, staff, the public, and other members of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the work of and manages the activity staff, including participation in selection, training, performance evaluations, coaching, counseling, and recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Determines department staffing hours/requirements and assigns activity personnel.
  • Identifies staff development needs, coordinates training with the Administrator, and oversees in-service education.
  • Develops and recommends annual operating budget information to the Administrator, forecasts funding needs, monitors budget, and authorizes expenditures.
  • Develops activity services objectives, policies, and procedures, and directs their implementation, ensuring compliance with Federal and State guidelines.
  • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to activity staff and monitors their practices.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs activity programs.
  • Interviews residents or family members to gather information for activity planning, objectives, goals, discharge planning, care plans, and resident assessments.
  • Develops a written plan of care for each resident identifying problems/needs and goals.
  • Ensures all charted Activity Progress Notes are informative and descriptive of services provided.
  • Reviews resident activity participation levels weekly and revises Care Plans as needed.
  • Develops quarterly Quality Assessments for the Quality Assurance program and implements action plans to address deficiencies.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments.
  • Assists room-bound residents with leisure time activities, providing materials and running errands.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
