About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to organize, manage, coordinate, and oversee the planning and execution of social, recreational, and educational programs for residents. This role ensures programs align with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as facility policies, Birchaven Village's ethical statement, and resident rights. The Activity Manager operates under the direction of the Administrator and is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of resident information to protect personnel and resident rights.

Requirements

Must be licensed or registered as a qualified therapeutic recreations specialist OR an activities professional who is licensed or registered in Ohio.
Must be eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; OR have 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; OR be a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; OR have completed a training course approved by Ohio.
Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.
Ability to communicate with residents and encourage them to participate in activity programs.
Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.
Must be able to interpret appropriate information needed to identify patient's age-specific needs and provide the necessary care.

Responsibilities

Organize, manage, coordinate, and oversee the planning and execution of social, recreational, and educational life enrichment programs for residents, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
Develop and maintain written policies and procedures for the life enrichment department that reflect current standards of practice and focus on Person Centered Care for residents.
Manage the department's budget, including labor, equipment, and supplies, and maintain activity equipment and supplies within budgetary limits.
Oversee resident assessments, care plans, and progress notes related to life enrichment, ensuring care is person-centered and honors resident preferences, choices, values, and beliefs.
Demonstrate leadership and accountability to ensure the department implements an ongoing resident-centered life enrichment program that incorporates resident interests, hobbies, and cultural preferences to improve physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being and independence.
Create opportunities for residents to have a meaningful life by supporting their domains of wellness (security, autonomy, growth, connectedness, identity, joy, and meaning).
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure effective communication of services.
Oversee the planning and development of life enrichment calendars that meet program requirements and are offered at times that maximize resident involvement, including evenings and weekends.
Determine staffing needs for the life enrichment department and provide backup support to meet resident needs.
Provide direction and oversight for the volunteer program and gift shop.
Demonstrate leadership in directing the department to ensure quality of resident care and promote team collaboration.
Direct resident council meetings and attend required meetings such as QAPI, Leadership, and Resident/Family meetings.
Develop and implement an effective life enrichment orientation program and ongoing in-service training for staff.
Attend education programs to stay current with standards of practice and communicate relevant information to staff.
Support and actively engage in practicing the organization's mission, vision, and values to promote resident satisfaction.
Actively participate in supporting cascading goals, including service excellence, financial goals, and idea boards.
