About The Position

Activity leaders assist residents in the Memory Care unit to engage and participate in purposeful programming that will enhance their quality of life by leading programs that touch on the dimensions of wellness: physical activity, emotional, cognitive, spirituality, and social. This role requires creativity and individualization to enhance the quality of life for residents with varying levels of cognitive and physical abilities. This is a Temporary assignment for 6 months minimum. With a possibility of extension and/or conversion to permanent. This is a 40 hour a week position.

Requirements

  • At least 6 months working/volunteering with seniors required
  • High School Graduate – required
  • Staff to be vaccinated for COVID-19 with booster.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group and encourage others
  • Prefer someone with experience working in a memory care setting
  • Familiarity with computers, tablets, mobile phones and other forms of technology (software and hardware)
  • Expert in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the field of brain fitness and memory support
  • Some College Experience in a healthcare or related field - preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with Memory Care staff to create purposeful programs that keep residents engaged
  • Implement an individualized recreation plan (created by the Memory Care team) that supports brain, body, and spiritual life
  • Assist residents in accessing and participating in chosen programs and dual activities on the floors
  • Occasionally, schedule zoom/video visits for residents
  • Fosters a warm, friendly, and engaging atmosphere to encourage residents' involvement and enjoyment
  • Decorate and facilitate special programs for holidays
  • Communicate with the rest of the Memory Care team regarding resident attendance, functioning, etc.
  • Meet with manager and Memory Care Manager as needed
  • Log and monitor residents' attendance and participation in programs
  • Report all relevant data during team meetings
  • Continue to grow and improve in understanding of memory support and dementia care, which may include off-site training
  • Occasional assistance with resident ADL care, such as assistance with getting dressed, serving snacks, redirecting residents, and 1:1s
  • Attend mandatory training and in-services
  • Work with any volunteers/interns/practicum students, etc, that are involved in Memory Care
  • Assist with creating the calendar
  • Follow / execute the programs listed on the calendar
  • Going on on /off campus outings
  • Other duties as assigned
