About The Position

Inns of Aurora is hiring part-time programming hosts and guides. We already have some activities for guests in place that you might consider hosting, or you can bring your own ideas for consideration. Currently, we offer guided walking tours of our resort focusing on history, art, and architecture. We also offer guided hikes in our nature preserve by day and evening, as well as boat tours on Cayuga Lake. Our guests are interested in everything from outdoor adventure to Finger Lakes wine tasting. Wellness activities and workshops are also of great interest. This position is part-time and the activity you host may be seasonal. Hours can vary from as few as three hours per week to as many as 20 depending on your availability and our need.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in the following areas to effectively lead guest experiences: Wildlife and plant identification, Local ecology and land features, History of the Finger Lakes region and Cayuga Lake, Outdoor survival basics, including fire building and water sourcing/sanitation, Archery instruction.
  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Friendly disposition

  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends though some weekday openings may be available
  • Strong understanding of guest expectations in a luxury resort or hospitality setting.
  • Ability to participate in outdoor and physically demanding activities.
  • Comfortable working in both office and outdoor environments in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Host and lead outdoor guest activities including hikes, archery, wildlife observation, and other nature-based programming.
  • Assist in facilitating private outdoor programming for individual guests, groups, and retreats.
  • Lead guided hikes up to approximately 3 miles while sharing information about the landscape, ecology, and local history.
  • Monitor and assess weather conditions to ensure guest safety during outdoor activities.
  • Create welcoming, engaging guest interactions and foster repeat participation through strong relationship building.
  • Maintain the outdoor trail network through mowing and vegetation management, and spreading wood chips.
  • Assist with tree removal.
  • Operate and maintain outdoor equipment including UTV for trail work and activity setup.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and scheduled maintenance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, including weekly UTV cleaning during muddy seasons.
  • Assist with winter operations including plowing and salting driveways and pathways.
  • Step in to host activities when staffing gaps arise.
  • Maintain accurate records related to programming and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot unexpected operational challenges such as equipment malfunctions during guest activities.
  • Respond quickly and calmly to resolve issues while maintaining a positive guest experience.
  • Support a wide range of operational needs as a “jack-of-all-trades” for outdoor programming.
  • Perform basic carpentry repairs and maintenance for outdoor infrastructure including platforms, bridges, and kiosks.
