About The Position

The Activities Director is responsible for planning, developing, and directing a diverse schedule of engaging resident activity programs. This role involves completing resident assessments, designing individualized activity care plans, and ensuring full compliance with state/federal regulations. The Activities Director will also recruit, interview, schedule, and supervise activity department personnel, involve families and residents in program planning, and collaborate with local community agencies. Additionally, this position requires managing department documentation, handling budgets, reporting directly to the Administrator, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, and arranging safe transportation for resident field trips and external facility transfers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate degree.
  • Licensed Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRSs) or Activities Professional.
  • Eligible for certification as a recreation specialist or activity professional.
  • 2+ years of social/recreation experience within the last 5 years (including 1 year full-time in a healthcare activities program).
  • Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Proven ability to supervise staff, make independent decisions, and work harmoniously across teams.
  • Exceptional patience, tact, cheerfulness, and enthusiasm when interacting with residents, families, and state regulators.
  • Willingness to learn new activity methods and adapt programming to fit each resident's cognitive and maturity levels.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, schedule, and supervise activity department personnel.
  • Involve families and residents in program planning and collaborate with local community agencies.
  • Manage department documentation, handle budgets, and report directly to the Administrator.
  • Coordinate with nursing, social services, and discharge planning teams to support resident needs.
  • Arrange safe transportation for resident field trips and external facility transfers.
  • Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the consultant or administrator.
