About The Position

The Cultural Heritage Activities Coordinator, under the direction of the Cultural Heritage Director, is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and supporting cultural heritage classes and community activities for youth and adults. This position focuses on hands-on cultural programming such as beading, sewing, carving, language classes, and other traditional and contemporary cultural arts. The Coordinator works closely with artists, instructors, staff, and community partners to ensure activities are well planned, accessible, and aligned with Yakutat Tlingit Tribe cultural values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Tlingit culture, language, arts, or community programs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a National Criminal and State background check.
  • This position is designated as having control over Indian children and will also require a fingerprint criminal background check.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule cultural heritage activities, classes, and workshops (e.g., beading, sewing, carving, language, regalia-making, cultural arts).
  • Work with the Cultural Heritage Director to identify tribal member interests and cultural priorities for programming.
  • Assist with securing instructors, artists, and cultural practitioners, including coordinating contracts and logistics.
  • Support set-up, materials preparation, attendance tracking, and clean-up for classes and activities.
  • Ensure activities are welcoming, culturally respectful, and accessible to community members of all ages.
  • Assist with promoting activities through flyers, social media, and community outreach.
  • Maintain calendars and records of all cultural activities.
  • Support youth, adult, and intergenerational participation in cultural activities.
  • Coordinate with schools, youth programs, and other Tribal departments when activities overlap or partner.
  • Help foster a positive, respectful learning environment rooted in Tlingit values.
  • Track participation, supplies, and basic activity-related expenses.
  • Assist the Cultural Heritage Director with simple reports, attendance summaries, and documentation as requested.
  • Maintain organized files related to activities, instructors, and participant sign-ins.
  • Support Culture Camp, Celebration travel, or special events as assigned (limited and task-specific).
  • Travel locally as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of cultural programming.
