About The Position

This position involves planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities. The Activities Assistant will also assist in maintaining good communication between employees, residents, families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to ensure the needs and best interests of residents, the community, and the facility are met. The role includes participating in community planning related to the facility's interests and resident/family needs, assisting in the development of a monthly activity calendar, and maintaining attendance records. The Assistant will also support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee, participate in discharge planning, and help develop and implement activity care plans and resident assessments. Additionally, the role involves arranging transportation for residents, developing a monthly activity schedule, encouraging resident self-initiated activities, providing necessary materials (like Braille or audio books), assisting with assessment documentation and progress notes, and maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Activity Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read technical procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Standing and/or walking very frequently.
  • Reaching with hands and arms frequently.
  • Pushing/pulling very frequently.
  • Talking and/or hearing very frequently.
  • Tasting and/or smelling very frequently.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling occasionally.
  • Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception in vision: ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities.

  • Supporting the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action.
  • Participating in discharge planning, development, and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
  • Arranging transportation for residents when necessary, including outings, appointments, or discharge.
  • Developing a monthly activity schedule for residents, including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents.
  • Encouraging residents to participate in self-initiated activities such as hobbies, crafts, and reading.
  • Providing necessary materials, such as reading materials in Braille or audio books.
  • Assisting with assessment documentation and quarterly progress notes.
  • Keeping the Activity Department clean, orderly, and secured.
