This role strives to improve the quality of life for patients/residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on a one-on-one and/or group basis. The Activities Assistant administers the monthly activity calendar, regularly elicits patient/resident input into activity planning, and keeps activities well organized and upbeat, following all state-required activities such as music, craft, and spiritual activities. They partake in activities appropriate for the patient/department and residents to support and ensure functioning at an optimal level while also maintaining dignity and identity. Additionally, the role assists with simple nursing procedures and transporting patients/residents to and from rooms, as well as with Minimum Data Set (MDS)/EPIC documentation. The position requires creativity, resourcefulness, the ability to follow instructions while working under close supervision, excellent communication skills, leadership abilities, and the capacity to work with strong-willed patients/residents or those with behavioral issues. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritize responsibilities while working autonomously, plan and oversee resource utilization, and design work processes.
