About The Position

The Therapeutic Recreation Assistant assists with planning, organizing, and implementing daily activity programs tailored to residents’ needs, interests, and capabilities. Programs include individual, group, and independent activities. The position also supports special events and musical programs, encourages residents to participate, and helps maintain a safe environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent education.
Interest in health care services and ability to relate to people appropriately.
Good communication and interpersonal skills for frequent contact with patients and professional staff.

Nice To Haves

1–3 years of experience in recreational therapy or a geriatric setting.
CPR Certification (BCLS).

Responsibilities

Assist with developing the monthly activity calendar and post it weekly and monthly in areas accessible to residents, staff, and volunteers.
Inform residents about special events.
Report observed changes in a resident’s condition or behavior, and unusual incidents, to the supervisor and nursing staff when they occur.
Participate in organizing, instructing, supervising, and setting up and cleaning up scheduled activities.
Transport residents to and from activities and programs.
Assist with preparing musical programs for residents as requested by the supervisor.
Visit residents daily and encourage participation in activities, games, exercises, and events.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Demonstrate awareness and understanding of resident safety.
Follow universal and isolation precautions.
Perform activities on weekends and evenings when assigned.
Label supplies and equipment and store them in designated areas to support resident safety.
Follow departmental and facility policies and recognized standards.
Perform other duties as required.
