About The Position

This is a full-time faculty position in Theatre and Media Arts at Brigham Young University (BYU). The role involves teaching acting courses, pursuing scholarly or creative activity, directing productions, mentoring students, and contributing to departmental service. The position requires a commitment to BYU's educational mission and principles.

Requirements

MFA in Acting or related discipline; or PhD in Theatre or related discipline with a specific focus on acting performance and practice. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
3+ years experience in teaching and mentoring students at the college or university level.
Exceptional teaching ability, with core competency in Acting for stage and screen and a secondary focus one or more of the following areas: Voice, Directing, and/or Musical Theatre.
Professional experience in acting performance.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
Must support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrine of the affiliated church.

Nice To Haves

Notable teaching outside of school settings.
Substantial and promising record of theatre directing.
Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of the affiliated church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Responsibilities

Teach 5 acting courses (up to 15 credit hours) across fall and winter semesters and 1 additional course (up to 3 credit hours) either spring or summer term within the Acting and Music Dance Theatre BFA programs.
Pursue ongoing scholarly or creative activity, with expectations for engagement and contribution to the field at regional, national, and international levels.
Direct productions on the BYU Theatre season.
Mentor students to ensure academic success, and professional and personal growth.
Commit to the AIMS of BYU education and a commitment to student-centered learning.
Contribute to departmental service through administrative roles.
