Acoustics Engineer, Capacity Delivery

Fluidstack•Austin, TX
•$164,000 - $206,000

About The Position

Fluidstack is hiring an Acoustics Engineer to serve as the acoustics specialist for its civil, structural, and architectural team, which designs buildings, sites, and yards for gigawatt-scale AI data centers. The role is the point of contact for noise across data center and power generation engineering groups. The engineer will assess sound from large mechanical plants, on-site generation, and electrical yards in advance of permitting, using repeatable template designs and adapting models to candidate sites. The role owns environmental and occupational acoustic studies for template data center and power generation designs, maintains outdoor sound propagation models, recommends practical noise mitigations, and integrates acoustic requirements into engineering designs. It also includes defining and verifying workforce noise protections, preparing permitting and community-engagement materials, and supporting commissioning measurements.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of acoustics or noise control engineering experience on industrial, power generation, or mission-critical facilities.
  • At least one project taken from study through permit and commissioning measurement.
  • Fluency with an outdoor sound propagation tool such as CadnaA or SoundPLAN and the ISO 9613-2 method.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental noise measurement, equipment-vendor sound power and sound pressure data, and octave-band calculations.
  • Working knowledge of occupational noise standards such as OSHA 1910.95 and local noise ordinances governing industrial sites.
  • Experience specifying barriers, silencers, and acoustic enclosures and seeing them built and measured.
  • Ability to explain acoustic trade-offs to mechanical and electrical engineers and uphold noise limits during design reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • INCE Board Certification or Professional Engineer license.
  • Data center or gas turbine plant noise experience.
  • Building acoustics or vibration isolation background.
  • Mechanical engineering or procurement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Run environmental and occupational noise studies and calculations for template data center and power generation designs, and keep them current as the templates change.
  • Build and maintain outdoor sound propagation models for each template and adapt them to candidate sites, terrain, and local ordinances.
  • Specify barriers, silencers, acoustic enclosures, louvers, and equipment selections to bring sites within noise limits, including the cost and schedule case for each.
  • Bring noise requirements into mechanical, electrical, power generation, and architectural designs early, and review equipment selections and layouts for acoustic impact.
  • Set occupational noise exposure limits for plant and yard work areas, define hearing conservation zones, and verify them at commissioning.
  • Produce noise assessments, reports, and measurements needed for permitting and community engagement, and respond to resulting questions.
