Software Engineer - Acoustics

Starkey•Eden Prairie, MN
•Hybrid

About The Position

Starkey is seeking a software engineer to work at the intersection of software engineering, hearing science, acoustics, and signal processing. The role is part of the software engineering team and collaborates with cross-functional groups to bring new hearing aid features to market. The engineer will work in a modern C#/.NET codebase used by Starkey’s customer-facing and internal applications for programming hearing aids, contributing to fitting-software capabilities that model hearing-aid acoustics and assess the effects of signal-processing algorithms on acoustic performance. The position also involves working with clinical and customer-facing teams to investigate issues reported by audiologists, weighing technical tradeoffs that affect performance and usability, and analyzing and presenting data to stakeholders. Mentorship and opportunities to learn about the hearing-aid domain are provided. The role is based in a hybrid work environment.

Requirements

  • Experience and interest in both software development and acoustics.
  • A bachelor’s degree in at least one of the following or an adjacent domain: computer science, electrical engineering, hearing science, or audiology.
  • Understanding of object-oriented software design.
  • A learner’s mindset and willingness to ask questions and absorb knowledge.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Passion for science, data-driven decision-making, and experimentation.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a modern C#/.NET codebase used by Starkey’s customer-facing and internal applications to program hearing aids.
  • Collaborate with R&D cross-functional teams to build and maintain the fitting-software subsystem that models hearing-aid acoustics and the effects of new signal-processing algorithms on acoustic performance.
  • Collaborate with clinical and customer-facing teams to debug and determine the root causes of issues audiologists encounter in the field.
  • Balance technical tradeoffs and constraints affecting acoustic performance, usability, and maintainability for patients and clinicians.
  • Analyze and present data to decision-making stakeholders.
  • Learn the hearing-aid domain with mentorship from software engineers and engineers in other disciplines.
