Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Acoustical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.
  • Three plus years of professional experience in environmental noise analysis, modeling, and control.
  • Hands-on experience with acoustical modeling software (CadnaA, SoundPLAN, or equivalent) for environmental sound required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ISO 9613-2 sound propagation methodology and applicable ANSI/ASA standards preferred.
  • Experience with Type 1 sound level meters and field measurement instrumentation preferred.
  • Experience across one or more relevant industries (e.g., renewable energy, mining, transportation, parks/recreation, commercial development) preferred.
  • Membership in the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) and/or Acoustical Society of America (ASA) preferred.
  • Experience working in GIS software preferred (ArcMap, QGIS, etc.)
  • Interest in pursuing INCE Board Certification (INCE Bd. Cert.) along the standard career path.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of senior acoustical staff to execute assigned project tasks and deliverables.
  • Conduct sound measurements, analyses, and modeling under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Support client and stakeholder communications in coordination with senior acoustical staff and project managers.
  • Execute noise impact assessments for mining, infrastructure, industrial, energy, transportation, commercial, and recreational projects.
  • Develop and apply acoustical models (e.g., CadnaA) to predict sound propagation under varied environmental conditions.
  • Assist in the design of noise control and mitigation strategies for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on permitting, planning, and environmental studies.
  • Prepare technical reports and contribute to deliverables for agency, client, and stakeholder review.
  • Support the development of policies and best practices for noise management.
  • Develop environmental noise analyses for industrial, utility, and transportation clients to satisfy federal, state, or local acoustic criteria. Environmental acoustic analyses include noise monitoring, modeling, and mitigation design.
  • Travel to projects to conduct ambient and operating sound surveys.
  • Prepare technical deliverables, including environmental assessments, permitting documents, and compliance monitoring reports.
  • Receive training and mentorship from senior acoustical staff to build proficiency in acoustic tools, field methodologies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Stay current with advancements in noise control engineering, modeling techniques, and regulatory frameworks.
