About The Position

Apple’s iPhone Acoustics Integration team owns the audio experience for iPhone and works across hardware, software, and acoustic design. The Acoustic Engineer will take audio concepts from early ideation through mass production and own acoustic design and integration across product lines, helping shape the sound experience for iPhone users. The role involves collaboration with Transducer Design, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, Tuning, Operations, and Reliability teams. The engineer will use simulation, prototyping, tuning, and validation to advance compact acoustic systems. International travel of up to 10% is expected.

Requirements

  • Passion for audio and fundamental knowledge of acoustic theory.
  • Eagerness to take on new challenges, take personal ownership, learn new skills, and drive tasks independently.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and communicate acoustic requirements, assess trade-offs, and consider risk strategically.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • BS/MS or equivalent work experience; preferably specializing in acoustics.
  • At least 5 years of experience in an acoustics engineering role.
  • Proven success prototyping, producing, and shipping high-volume consumer electronics with overseas manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of electrodynamic transducer design and MEMS, including transducer and acoustic porting simulation using lumped parameter methods, FEM/BEM, or COMSOL.
  • Hands-on experience integrating speakers and microphones, including designing for water, dust, and chemical resistance.
  • Experience with acoustic measurement and data acquisition tools such as Klippel, SoundCheck, or Audio Precision, or similar.
  • Knowledge of audio signal processing and 3D CAD.
  • High-level programming skills in MATLAB or Python.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 10%.

Nice To Haves
