About The Position

As an Acoustic Engineer on Apple’s iPhone Acoustics Integration team, you will take innovative audio concepts from early ideation through mass production, shaping how millions of people experience sound. You will own acoustic design and integration across product lines to deliver an exceptional overall audio experience. The work involves close collaboration with Transducer Design, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, Tuning, Operations, and Reliability teams. Through simulation, prototyping, tuning, and validation, you will advance the possibilities of compact acoustic systems.

Requirements

  • Passion for audio and fundamental knowledge of acoustic theory.
  • Eagerness to take on new challenges, take personal ownership, learn new skills, and independently drive tasks from start to finish.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally, communicate acoustic requirements, assess trade-offs, and think strategically about risk.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • BS/MS or equivalent work experience, preferably specializing in acoustics.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years in an acoustics engineering role, with proven success prototyping, producing, and shipping high-volume consumer electronics with overseas manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of electrodynamic transducer design and MEMS, including transducer and acoustic porting simulation using lumped parameters, FEM/BEM, or COMSOL.
  • Hands-on experience integrating speakers and microphones, including designing for water, dust, and chemical resistance.
  • Interest in audio feature development and creative sound design, such as beamforming, spatial audio, EQ/filter design, and compression/limiting, using tools such as Max MSP and Logic Pro.
  • Skills in acoustic measurement and data acquisition using Klippel, SoundCheck, Audio Precision, or similar tools; audio signal processing; and 3D CAD.
  • High-level programming skills in MATLAB or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Own acoustic design and integration across product lines.
  • Develop audio concepts from early ideation through mass production.
  • Collaborate with Transducer Design, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, Tuning, Operations, and Reliability teams.
  • Use simulation, prototyping, tuning, and validation to develop compact acoustic systems.
