About The Position

When you join the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), you are at the center of transforming health care. You are on the leading edge of ensuring family doctors have what they need to adapt, and you are part of a legacy that has been instrumental in improving and advocating for family medicine since 1947. Make an impact that matters. Be Team AAFP. About the AAFP Credit System The AAFP Credit System was the first national continuing medical education (CME) accreditor for physicians in the U.S. and remains the only accreditor focused solely on the needs of family physicians. We review CME accreditation applications on a per-activity basis and award AAFP Prescribed or Elective credit to activities that meet our eligibility requirements, accreditation standards, and regulatory expectations. Our work has real reach and impact. Each year, we partner with more than 900 CME provider organizations and review over 16,000 activities and sessions, supporting healthcare education, physician competence, and lifelong learning. As a small, collaborative team operating as a distinct business unit within the AAFP, we play a critical role in maintaining high-quality standards, compliance, and quality assurance in family medicine education. The Accreditation Specialist plays an important role in evaluating and maintaining the quality of CME offered to family physicians. In this role, you will: Review CME activities, sessions, and organizations to determine eligibility for AAFP credit, applying accreditation standards, compliance requirements, and policy interpretation Apply Credit System eligibility requirements to a wide range of real-world scenarios using strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and sound judgment Use critical thinking and judgment to make well-reasoned eligibility and compliance decisions Manage your work independently while meeting established timelines, demonstrating strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail Provide responsive, approachable support to CME providers, delivering high-quality customer service and stakeholder communication Contribute to projects that improve processes, support operational efficiency, continuous improvement, and accreditation operations This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys analytical work, takes pride in making thoughtful decisions, and wants to be part of a small team with meaningful national impact in healthcare education and accreditation. Applicants should be located within reasonable driving distance of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Specific aspects include: Review and evaluate continuing medical education (CME) accreditation/credit applications for activities, sessions, and organizations, applying AAFP eligibility requirements, policies, and accreditation standards to make well-reasoned eligibility and compliance decisions while seeking guidance as needed. Provide high-quality customer service and education to CME provider organizations, including managing the CME credit email inbox, responding to customer inquiries, and clearly explaining accreditation decisions, requirements, and policies in a professional and approachable manner. Independently manage a workload that includes reviewing CME applications and sessions within established turnaround times, using strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management to ensure accuracy and consistency.
