About The Position

Dauphin County Prison is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Accreditation Compliance Manager. This role performs complex administrative, analytical, and professional assistance work to demonstrate the Dauphin County Prison’s compliance with and adherence to standards established by the American Corrections Association (ACA), Title 37, Chapter 95 of the Pennsylvania Code, National Commission of Corrections Health Care, OSHA, Pennsylvania Building Code and Pennsylvania Training Academy.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of ACA, Title 37 standards and the accreditation process.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement management, operation, administration, and equipment.
  • Remain knowledgeable of Dauphin County Prison policies and procedures.
  • Remain knowledgeable of Federal, State, and local laws/ordinates.
  • Read, understand, and interpret technical materials concerning corrections and Dauphin County’s criminal justice system.
  • Work independently and solve problems involving complex variables.
  • Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about rapidly changing information and/or technology.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with management and supervisors from other departments and organizations.
  • Interacts with staff, County officials, other departments, and general public on department related matters.
  • Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, and grasping as necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out job duties.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying of objects of varying weight, primarily less than forty pounds.
  • Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
  • Must demonstrate resourcefulness in decision making and problem solving and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program plus; a college degree or certification from an accredited college/university in business or a related field.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate for this position will achieve and maintain accreditation/certification in Criminal History, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and the use of automatic external defibrillator (AED).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in professional office / administrative work.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
  • Favorable criminal history background check.
  • PA Child Abuse and FBI Child Abuse clearances.
  • Must be able to speak and comprehend the English language in an understandable manner to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must be able to understand, monitor, and implement various contracts.
  • Must possess highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with department heads, staff, and others.
  • Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality about sensitive information and records.
  • Must possess technical knowledge of operating personal computers and other office equipment as necessary.
  • Must be available to work an established schedule of core working hours with occasional non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of modern corrections.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of County Prison Board policy.
  • Knowledge of Prison emergency plans.
  • Knowledge of County Prison evolutions.
  • Knowledge of Prison configuration and spaces.
  • Skill in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to assess and timely/accurately report (orally and in writing) extraordinary events and emergencies.
  • Ability to implement routine and emergency procedures, timely and accurately.
  • Ability to work accurately and confidentially in an inherently stressful environment.
  • Ability to establish effective work relationships with superiors; peers; subordinates; other departments and staff within the facility, County, vendors/suppliers, and outside agencies; inmates and their families, friends, and advocates; elected and appointed officials of Federal, State, and local government; and other interested persons.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a correctional setting is preferred but not required or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Prison policy, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor policy compliance, identify areas for improvement and recommend strategic solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices and emerging trends to inform policy development and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Prepare, edit, and maintain accurate documents, reports, records, files, and materials.
  • Answers routine telephone inquiries and correspondence.
  • Works with the Litigation & Policy Coordinator to prepare items/issues for review by the Dauphin County Prison Board of Inspectors.
  • Creates on-going, accreditation-related training for faculty and staff to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Assists with the preparation and submission of the monthly Prison Board meeting packets.
  • Assists with the screening, research, and drafting of submissions for various surveys.
  • Maintains and updates records and files on various department projects and statistical information.
  • Evaluate operations, predict outcomes, and make recommendations to Prison Administrators.
  • Attends professional development conferences and trainings to remain current in higher education accreditation practices.
  • Assist the Warden with necessary documentation and confidential records of inmates and staff.
  • Monitors and oversees compliance with Record Retention Procedure and records storage for the facility.
  • Attends monthly Prison Board meetings.
  • Assists other employees in the Administration Office as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
