About The Position

Freightliner of Hartford, Inc is a family owned and operated full-service commercial truck dealership, established in 1996. In addition to our Freightliner parts, sales, and service locations in East Hartford and Torrington, we also own Alliance Used Truck Center, Equipment Specialists, and Connecticut Driveshaft Services. Our accounting department is a small, close-knit team that manages transactions, billing, expenses, customer accounts, financial reports, and more for all of our businesses and locations. We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our accounting team in the Accounts Receivable and Office Support role. In this position, you will be responsible for processing payments, maintaining accurate records, ensuring timely and accurate collection of receivables, and supporting general office tasks. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a foundation in accounting, who is also eager to learn new tasks and have opportunities for growth. Full-time in-person setting Monday through Friday, 8am - 4:30pm

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional formal education is a plus, but hands-on experience is valued
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Positive attitude and ability to be a team-player
  • Organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Personable and effective communicator
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate with customers regarding invoices, discrepancies, and payment status
  • Process cash, check, and credit card transactions on a daily basis
  • Apply customer payments (cash, checks, ACH, wire, credit cards) to correct accounts
  • Reconciliation of daily cash transactions and reporting for all locations
  • Monitor customer accounts, aging reports, and follow-up on past-due balances
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in filing and computer systems
  • Assist with month-end closing and reporting such as monthly corporate card statements
  • Support the office by facilitating the organization and ordering of office supplies
  • Work closely and effectively with all departments and locations regarding accounting matters
  • Provide front desk coverage, as needed, including managing phone calls and walk-ins, remote bank deposit processing, as well as trips to the post office and banks
