About The Position

The Accounts Payable Specialist plays an integral role in the daily cash and vendor management of the business. Operating in a high volume, fast-paced environment this role requires time management and organizational skills to thrive.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience
  • High school diploma required, college courses in accounting preferred
  • Must be well organized and a self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi tasking skills
  • Proficient in Excel and must be able to follow standard filing procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness

Responsibilities

  • Review and processes all invoices for payment generation according to vendor terms and agreements.
  • Processes cheque requests and pays vendors by monitoring statements.
  • Resolves purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation, insuring credit is received for outstanding memos, issuing stop payments or purchase order amendments.
  • Audits employees expense reports against receipts, follows up with any discrepancies for reconciliation.
  • Charges expenses to accounts and cost centres by analyzing invoice/expense reports, recording entries.
  • Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies informing manager of any anomalies.
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Maintains strong vendor relationships and completes ad hoc projects as required
