About The Position

Business program tutors support students' academic success in core business courses through in-person, one-on-one, and small group meetings, as well as virtual appointments. Business tutors handle both pre-booked appointments and walk-ins. Accounting tutors assist with understanding concepts, homework help, and exam preparation for students enrolled in ACCT 100, ACCT 200, and ACCT 311. If accounting tutors are interested and academically qualified, accounting tutors may support students in FINC 310 and 311 during periods of high demand.

Requirements

  • Declared Accounting major
  • Completion of ACCT 311
  • A minimum of 3.5 GPA for all accounting and finance courses taken
  • Passion for accounting and supporting peer learning
  • Ability to work with students with diverse identities and learning styles
  • Ability to communicate technical accounting terms in a non-technical way
  • Comfortability communicating with staff and faculty in person and through email
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
  • Actively enrolled at least part-time in courses for credit.

Nice To Haves

  • Declared Finance major or minor
  • Completion of FINC 310 and 311 with a grade of B or higher
  • 3.5 GPA for finance courses
  • Ability to support students in FINC 310 and 311
  • Prior tutoring, teaching, and/or coaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Participate in tutor orientation, training sessions, and monthly professional development meetings
  • Visit tutor-supported business classes each semester to promote tutoring services
  • Provide academic support to Opus College of Business undergraduate students within scheduled working hours for the following courses: ACCT 100, ACCT 200, ACCT 311. Support for ACCT courses beyond 311 is based on each tutor's experience with requisite coursework.
  • Support for FINC 310, and FINC 311 (Preferred, but not essential)
  • Direct students to appropriate campus resources
  • Track and take notes for each appointment in Salesforce
  • Remain up-to-date on department and course information, communicating with faculty when necessary
  • Accurately report all hours worked
