About The Position

The Springfield- Greene County Parks department is looking for a Accounting Technician to assist in the financial services of the Parks department and specifically the SPARC program. This roll will play a heavy hand in the accounts receivable and payables, tracking and reporting of grants, and administration of the Parks Youth Scholarship fund activity. This position will assist in the preparation of key budget data and spreadsheet for the school park section, as well as other areas of the Parks department. The Accounting Technician coordinates and maintains various types of accounting information required for the City's financial reporting system as well as department specific systems and prepares various summaries, for both internal and external use, from this information. What to expect: Working in database applications, performs detailed spreadsheet analyses, and performs various account analyses and reconciliations as required Assists in the preparation of detailed working papers for use in external audits as required Makes recommendations to management regarding projections, trends, performance incentive programs, potential problems, etc. based on accounting/financial data Provides assistance as assigned with special departmental projects and operations related to improving business operations, performance improvements including incentive programs, internal controls, and improvement studies including managed competition issue.

Requirements

  • Basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Ability to work with highly detailed spreadsheets that will require an eye for the details.
  • The desire to serve others (leaders, supervisor, or peers).
  • Analytical detective, having the ability to investigate discrepancies and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; AND At least one year of appropriate Accounting experience.
  • OR A Bachelor's Degree in Business, or other closely related field, with a minor or equivalent college credit hours in Accounting; AND Three years of appropriate Accounting experience.
  • Directly related experience may be substituted for the formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis, plus a minimum of 15 credit hours in Accounting coursework from an accredited college.
  • Proof of United States Citizenship/Authorization to Work in the United States as established by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 is a condition of employment.
  • Must complete the City of Springfield on-line application in its entirety.
