About The Position

This position provides department-wide Accounts Payable and Travel support by reviewing, processing, and reconciling invoices, travel reimbursements, and related financial transactions. Responsibilities include analyzing financial and payroll error reports, researching and resolving discrepancies, preparing journal entries, and maintaining accurate financial records within the State’s accounting systems. The position also assists staff with Accounts Payable and Travel procedures, ensures compliance with state policies, and supports other fiscal operations as needed. The Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) mission statement is: “ Conserving, improving, and protecting Alaska's natural resources and environment to enhance the health, safety, economic, and social well-being of Alaskans.” This position directly contributes to the success of this mission by ensuring that DEC divisions’ requests are handled timely, transactions are processed accurately, and quality customer service is provided. Requirements

  • Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.

  • Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.
  • Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
  • An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
