About The Position

Incumbents in this 3-level classification series combine a practical knowledge of accounting (GAAP and GASB) with procedural and program knowledge. At this level, employees focus on processing financial transactions, maintaining records, and ensuring accuracy in financial operations. Responsibilities include assisting with financial reporting, reconciling accounts, and supporting compliance with established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems and computer processes and capabilities to assemble, review, and maintain accounting, budget, or fiscal transactions.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and reconciliation methods.
  • Knowledge of state statutes and financial regulations relevant to accounting and reporting.
  • Skill in using computers and a variety of accounting software.
  • Skill in attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial records and reports.
  • Skill in applying state statutes and regulations to financial processes and compliance requirements.
  • Skill in handling and tracking cash transactions accurately and securely.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare financial records.
  • Ability to reconcile and reconstruct incomplete accounting information and find required information.
  • Ability to use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to courteously meet and communicate effectively with other employees, agency representatives, vendors, contractors, the public, and others.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal history background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Process financial transactions for county-wide systems.
  • Processing refunds for overages, double payments and corrections.
  • Perform daily, monthly and annual balancing.
  • Process and manage delinquent accounts, including issuing necessary notices and coordinating follow-up actions.
  • Liaise with legal counsel and other agencies regarding compliance matters, notices, and official documentation.
  • Prepare and distribute required reports and public notices related to financial or regulatory obligations.
  • Review and approve applications and official documents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide database management and support, including data entry, updates, and retrieval.
  • Maintain and update digital and print resources, such as websites and public records.
  • Process and track financial records and filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Train and assist staff in relevant procedures, software, and best practices.
  • Provides customer service & answers phone calls.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
