POSITION SUMMARY Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opportunity for an Accounting Supervisor to support Operations Accounting’s heavy product and petrochemical activity. This team has responsibilities that include accounting for purchases and sales, performing inventory reconciliations and supporting various front office and operating areas. This individual is required to ensure that personnel, procedures, controls, and systems are in place and operate in a timely and effective manner for this portion of MPC’s business. This position works closely with various organizations across the company, including Trading, Scheduling, BP&A, IT and Credit organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
  • Six (6) years of Accounting or relevant experience
  • RightAngle experience preferred
  • Demonstrates leadership capabilities and the ability to collaborate effectively across various teams

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for personnel, process, and procedures in the workgroup.
  • Ensuring that all accounting activities are recorded timely and effectively.
  • Collaborates to establish, monitor, and achieve annual goals and metrics.
  • Develops and coach's employees on performance of assigned duties.
  • Provides leadership and expertise to the workgroup, gaining expertise in the business processes and system applications used within the workgroup.
  • Works with internal and external parties to resolve issues.
  • Partners with IT and other business units to implement system upgrades and improvements.
  • Monitors internal controls to verify effectiveness and compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Actively participates in the monthly accounting closeout, performing reviews and offering guidance on various accounting topics.
  • Reviews and approves significant journal entries and reconciliations in accordance with Controller’s policies.
  • May monitor and ensure compliance with different governmental and/or state programs as well as maintaining appropriate reporting for programs as needed.
