About The Position

Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opportunity for an Accounting Supervisor to support Operations Accounting’s Crude Oil activity. This team has responsibilities that include accounting for purchases and sales of Crude Oil, performing inventory reconciliations, and supporting various front office and operating areas. This individual is required to ensure that personnel, procedures, controls, and systems are in place and operate in a timely and effective manner for this portion of MPC’s business. This position will work closely with various organizations across the company, including Trading, Scheduling, Treasury, BP&A, and IT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum six (6) years of Accounting or related experience required
  • Demonstrates leadership capabilities and the ability to collaborate effectively across various teams

Nice To Haves

  • RightAngle and SAP experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for personnel, process, and procedures in the workgroup. Ensuring that all accounting activities are recorded timely and effectively.
  • Collaborates with Manager to establish, monitor, and achieve annuals goals and metrics.
  • Develops and coaches employees on performance of assigned duties. Provides leadership and expertise to the workgroup, gaining expertise in the business processes and system applications used within the workgroup.
  • Works with internal and external parties to resolve issues.
  • Partners with IT and other business units to implement system upgrades and improvements.
  • Monitors internal controls to verify effectiveness and compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Actively participates in the monthly accounting closeout, performing reviews and offering guidance on various accounting topics.
  • Creates and records journal entries, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts in Blackline.
  • Supports accounting processes through managing and prioritizing business requirements, system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
  • Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.
