About The Position

The Accounting Specialist manages and reviews district financial transactions, ensuring compliance with USFR, GAAP, GASB, federal, state regulations, and district policies. The role supports the Accounting Coordinator and Director of Finance with general ledger management, account reconciliation, financial analysis, and report preparation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Coursework in accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Uniform System of Financial Records (USFR)
  • Experience with automated accounting systems (School ERP Pro preferred).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial data entry, management, and reconciliation.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, draw conclusions, and prepare reports.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve account discrepancies.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact positively with staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform daily financial record keeping, including bank account reconciliations, county treasurer reconciliations and treasury/banking operations (deposits, returned checks).
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including payroll/expense adjustments and internal chargebacks.
  • Process and report weekly revenue deposits (including file transfers to the county treasurer) and monthly revenue checks.
  • Administer all financial aspects of the Tax Credit and Medicaid Reimbursement programs.
  • Perform all financial development, monitoring, and reporting responsibilities for federal grants to include reimbursement requests and fiscal completion reports.
  • Maintain and approve student activities club transactions.
  • Assist with the preparation of board reports, fiscal year-end closing, and annual financial reports.
  • Train school staff on cash handling procedures and sound accounting practices.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts in accordance with USFR by approving account codes for department and school purchasing requisitions (including PARs).
  • Collaborate with auditors by providing necessary supporting documentation.
  • Respond to staff inquiries to provide financial information and direction.
  • Attend professional development to maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and district regulations.
  • Contribute to the team by performing additional duties as assigned.
