About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking for an astute Accounting Specialist I responsible for the compliance of all State, Federal and Agency laws, policies and procedures pertaining to the Business Office. This position also will be responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to accounts payable functions, Inmate Trust Accounts System (ITA) and resolving technical problems at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Perryville.

Requirements

  • Procedures, methods, and office equipment used in statistical record-keeping
  • General office procedures
  • Computer software to include Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Prioritizing and organizing tasks
  • Operating various office equipment and automated accounting systems
  • 10-Key/calculator
  • Techniques required to maintain accounting records through automated accounting systems
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
  • Accurately work with numbers and complete mandated reports in required formats
  • Adapt to changing priorities and situations
  • Research and compile fiscal and statistical information
  • Interpret ADCRR policies as they pertain to accounting
  • Work in a prison environment
  • Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • Maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
  • Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience in governmental accounting practices or one year working in the private sector business field

Responsibilities

  • Enters and verifies financial and other data to provide records, reports, and other information and correspondence in a systematic manner
  • Performs routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations
  • Enters data in all systems related to job duties
  • Examines and verifies fiscal transactions such as billing invoices, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, creating requisitions and other financial documents
  • Keeps records and/or journal entries to include maintenance of financial records, reports, checks, and deposits
  • Creates, maintains, and reconciles spreadsheets
  • Resolves technical issues
  • Investigates and resolves account discrepancies
  • Prepares correspondences
  • Drives on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
