About The Position

Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. is seeking a full-time, in-office Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting team at our Torrance headquarters. This position is designed for an individual seeking to build a long-term career in accounting, with opportunities to progress into Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant roles. The Accounting Specialist will support general ledger accounting, month-end close activities, lease administration, and U.S. federal and state tax compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and possesses a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits, credits, and financial statement relationships. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statement relationships.
  • Knowledge of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and month-end close processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities, learn new processes quickly, exercise sound judgment, and consistently deliver accurate work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and tax information.
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting month-end close and account reconciliations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.
  • Exposure to lease accounting (ASC 842), tax compliance, or public accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies and unusual fluctuations.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and accounting documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting efficiency and controls.
  • Maintain lease accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Track and monitor lease additions, modifications, renewals, and terminations.
  • Record lease accounting transactions and reconciliations in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Coordinate with business departments to gather lease-related information.
  • Assist with preparation of lease-related financial statement disclosures and audit support.
  • Assist with preparation of information required for federal, state, and local tax filings.
  • Prepare schedules supporting income tax, franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax filings.
  • Maintain tax compliance calendars and filing deadlines.
  • Research tax notices and assist with responses to taxing authorities.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders to gather required information.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support internal and external audit requests.
  • Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary to support efficient accounting operations.
