About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join their team as an Accounting Specialist 2. This position manages day-to-day financial operations for Accounting Administration on the Accounts Payable team. Key responsibilities include processing and verifying transactional data, performing account reconciliations, and maintaining ledgers. This role also supports financial reporting and acts as a subject matter expert for junior accounting staff. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. Requirements

  • Financial & Statistical Records: Principles of fiscal record-keeping, statistical methods, and department regulations.
  • Accounting Systems: Accounts Payable/Receivable operations.
  • Operations & Compliance: General office procedures, relevant laws, and departmental guidelines.
  • Productivity Software: Tools including Microsoft, Gmail, and G Suite.
  • Financial Management: Accurately maintain ledgers, journals, and fiscal records while analyzing and interpreting financial data.
  • Data Integrity: Execute precise data entry and perform thorough math and research with strict attention to detail.
  • Professional Skills: Apply strong time management, customer service, and bilingual written/verbal communication.
  • Apply & Analyze: Use core accounting principles to analyze fiscal data and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Reconcile: Ensure record integrity through precise financial reconciliation and reporting.
  • Collaborate & Autonomously Work: Thrive in team environments while retaining the ability to work independently.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Handle sensitive financial data with discretion and security.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of accounting experience plus a Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and audit fiscal transactions to ensure adherence to Federal and State regulations; approve distribution of funds and maintain accurate ledgers.
  • Process and reconcile accounts payable; review fiscal documents for accuracy and proper coding; compile and draft periodic financial reports.
  • Calculate expenses and receipts, correct computational errors, and update fiscal records.
  • Analyze the work of other employees for quality assurance and resolve complex procedural or technical issues.
  • Provide guidance and training to unit staff and division personnel regarding routine tasks and problem resolution.
