About The Position

This role contributes to a strong team environment and supports NW Natural’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices. The position involves supporting month-end close by recording journal entries for segment activity and accruals, analyzing results in comparison to budget and prior periods, and providing variance explanations to Management. The analyst will prepare account reconciliations and perform SOX controls to ensure accurate financial reporting, compile specific information for SEC financial statement disclosures, and provide support for internal and external audits. Additionally, the role assists with regulatory filings as needed. The position also manages the monthly gas reserves accounting process, working with a joint venture partner, supports the annual audit of the investment, and incorporates study results into annual forecasts. The analyst will prepare materials for monthly Management and quarterly Subsidiary Board Meetings. For the North Mist Gas Storage Facility, the role includes preparing a monthly reporting package for Management, reviewing information from multiple departments, interpreting results, and working closely with the Rates team to develop an annual forecast of future costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting and CPA certificate are required
  • Minimum of 5 years of applied accounting experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, with the ability to critically think and apply that knowledge to business requirements
  • Experience using SAP or another general ledger or other financial software system is strongly preferred
  • Experience with reconciliation tool, Blackline preferred
  • Microsoft Office proficiency with an emphasis on Excel
  • Strong written communication skills including with process and task documentation and report generation
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, including strong time management and organizational skills
  • Must combine attention to detail with the ability to envision the big picture
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on technical accounting rules and experience researching accounting issues
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate projects
  • Proven ability to function in a team environment

  • Experience in utility industry or related business environment is preferred
