About The Position

At Regions, the Accounting Policy Manager oversees accounting policy and financial reporting practices within the respective business unit, identifies and escalates significant or unusual transactions, advises Business Lines, Finance and Risk partners on accounting/control implications of new products, services, or transactions, assists with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), regulatory exams, internal and external audits, as well as responds to financial reporting requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related degree
  • Six (6) years of experience in public accounting, accounting policy or directly related accounting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Business Unit liaison, providing oversight/accountability for significant and unusual accounting and reporting issues within the Business Units
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with Business Line, Finance and Risk partners to advise on existing, new or proposed processes, events and transactions that may have accounting and reporting implications
  • Supervises and provides support to Accounting Policy Analysts
  • Partners with the Business Unit Controller to prepare and present presentations to senior level management on key issues and overviews of significant transactions
  • Provides proactive, expert consultation and technical support on events and transactions by identifying and addressing accounting policy and reporting issues and opportunities
  • Prepares and/or provides oversight on preparation of United States (US) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) technical accounting position papers on events and transactions (including due diligence efforts) and works with internal/external auditors through the review process
  • Evaluates the impact of proposed and new accounting rules and advise internal stakeholders on implementation; monitors emerging accounting standards, interprets impact to the Company and presents implementation priority/status to senior leadership; oversees maintenance of Corporate Accounting Policies
  • Assists in representing the Company externally on issues related to accounting policy and reporting matters through participation in industry-wide associations and related organizational meetings
