Accounting Manager (US or Canada)

Owner.com
$130,000 - $175,000Remote

About The Position

Owner is scaling fast, with increasing hardware volume and an upcoming expansion into Canada. To prepare for these growth phases, our financial systems require significant upgrades. Currently, we utilize QuickBooks Online without an inventory subledger or a defined ERP roadmap. Our financial processes involve manual integrations with Stripe, Bill.com, Ramp, and payroll systems, which consume excessive time during closing cycles. We are seeking an Accounting Manager to take ownership of our financial systems, data flows, and accounting infrastructure. This role involves building these systems internally rather than creating workarounds. Key responsibilities include leading our ERP migration, establishing inventory and COGS accounting, and laying the groundwork for multi-entity and multi-currency operations. This is a foundational role where you will define policies, select tools, design integrations, and create the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will guide Owner's accounting practices for the next decade. This position is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Direct ownership or significant contribution to an ERP migration or implementation at a scaling company.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and COGS for a physical-goods business (not just GL ownership at a SaaS company).
  • Demonstrated fluency with accounting systems and integrations: comfortable in the data model, able to discuss APIs with engineers, and explain how a Stripe payout becomes a journal entry.
  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, and intercompany accounting, or a clear path to acquiring this expertise based on prior work.
  • A builder's mindset: experience operating without a playbook, defining policy from first principles, and writing SOPs.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred.
  • Mix of public accounting and high-growth in-house experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Owner's ERP migration from QuickBooks Online to an AI-first platform (e.g., Rillet, Campfire), overseeing selection, implementation, data migration, and stabilization.
  • Design and implement end-to-end integrations with Stripe Connect, Bill.com, Ramp, payroll, and Salesforce.
  • Establish inventory and COGS accounting within the ERP, including defining FIFO vs. weighted-average policy, capitalization thresholds, and SKU structure.
  • Build an inventory subledger with automated tie-outs to warehouse movements.
  • Book reserves for returns, warranty, shrink, and obsolescence.
  • Deliver trusted COGS reporting by product and channel for operations and finance teams.
  • Build the international accounting foundation by defining entity setup requirements (multi-currency, intercompany, COA approach).
  • Ensure the ERP supports multi-entity reporting, consolidation, and eliminations.
  • Coordinate with tax, payroll, and compliance providers for the Canada launch and future international expansion.
  • Identify and deploy AI/automation opportunities across reconciliations, close tasks, and reporting to reduce manual work and allow the team to focus on judgment rather than data entry.

Benefits

  • Generous pre-IPO equity package
  • Comprehensive health coverage
  • Remote-first workplace
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Extra fun perks
