About The Position

Denver Botanic Gardens is seeking a Full Time Accounting Manager in its Finance Department. This role reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for general accounting, revenue recognition, cash management, banking, and business process improvement support. The position involves independently and accurately analyzing and monitoring general and sub-ledger accounting, as well as audit preparation and other related duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Accounting and Finance is required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, internal staff or members of the business community, and to effectively communicate information to employee groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with Salesforce, Financial Edge, and Ticketure preferred.
  • An active Certified Public Accountant Designation or a Masters in Accounting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise two staff members: Accounts Payable Coordinator and Accounting Coordinator.
  • Assist Director of Finance with preparation of the annual Federal Information Tax Return (Form 990).
  • In collaboration with the Information Technology department, direct projects automating the import of information from various sources, including Ticketure and Salesforce into Financial Edge.
  • Coordinate the financial management of all admissions, class activity, rentals, and event ticket revenue.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of all private event deferred revenue accounts.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly general ledger analysis to the Director of Finance, requiring comprehensive knowledge of Denver Botanic Gardens processes and procedures.
  • Work directly with external auditors on questions, problems, and documentation related to areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor, record, and reconcile daily cash and credit card activity.
  • Reconcile cash accounts monthly.
  • Lead reconciliation of contribution sub-ledgers.
  • Reconcile and maintain all prepaid expense accounts.
  • Reconcile and remit payment for monthly sales taxes.
  • Calculate and reconcile various monthly deferred revenue accounts.
  • Complete other general ledger reconciliations as assigned.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end journal entries for assigned accounts.
  • Oversee all Denver Botanic Gardens petty cash accounting and auditing.
  • Serve as the contact for all credit card processing questions and cash procedural training.
  • Support all revenue-generating departments, including facilitating monthly close.
  • Prepare billing invoices and maintain AR Aging monthly.
  • Work directly with various departments to complete revenue and expense transfers, ensuring the accuracy of account balances.
  • In collaboration with revenue-generating departments, research and dispute chargebacks as needed.
  • Prepare schedules, footnotes, and other materials for year-end financial statements as requested.
  • Assist Director of Finance with documents and schedules for interim and annual financial statement audit process.
  • Assist Director of Finance with various AdHoc tasks as requested.
  • Answer accounting and financial questions posed from various individuals by researching and interpreting data.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite may be required.
