About The Position

The Accounting Manager directs the day-to-day accounting operations of the hotel and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial records. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role owns the balance sheet, oversees the income audit and the accounts payable and receivable functions, manages cost and revenue allocations across departments and outlets, and leads a team of accounting professionals. The Accounting Manager safeguards the property's assets, supports month-end and year-end close, and partners with operational leaders to deliver clear, decision-ready financial information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent a plus.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, with at least two in a supervisory role; hotel or hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI), and internal-control best practices.
  • Proficiency with hospitality accounting and PMS/POS systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with proven leadership of a team.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong control mindset.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities during close.
  • Collaborative partner to operations and senior leadership.
  • Integrity and sound professional judgment in safeguarding company assets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain full ownership of the hotel balance sheet, ensuring every account is reconciled, supported, and accurate each period.
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances and aged or unsupported items.
  • Oversee the general ledger, journal entries, accruals, prepaid amortizations, and fixed-asset schedules.
  • Drive an accurate and timely month-end and year-end close, delivering financial statements within reporting deadlines.
  • Supervise the daily income audit to verify that all hotel revenue — rooms, food and beverage, and ancillary outlets — is captured, recorded, and reconciled correctly.
  • Review the daily revenue report, audit cashiering and settlement activity, and ensure point-of-sale and property-management system postings agree to the general ledger.
  • Identify and correct revenue discrepancies, rate variances, and posting errors, escalating control concerns as needed.
  • Oversee the accounts payable cycle — invoice approval, three-way matching, vendor management, and timely, accurate payment runs.
  • Manage the accounts receivable function, including billing, the city ledger, group and event invoicing, collections, and aging follow-up.
  • Monitor cash position, credit policy, and vendor and guest credit terms to optimize working capital.
  • Administer, calculate, and review cost and revenue allocations across departments, outlets, and shared services.
  • Ensure overhead, utility, and intercompany or management-fee allocations are applied consistently and in line with policy and management agreements.
  • Validate allocation methodologies and update them as the business and departmental structure evolve.
  • Lead, schedule, and develop the accounting team across income audit, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Set performance goals, conduct reviews, coach staff, and build bench strength and cross-training within the department.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures, supporting internal and external audits.
