About The Position

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the development, implementation, and optimization of accounting systems to ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant financial operations. This role performs and reviews of complex journal entries, of complex balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses in alignment with GAAP, IFRS, and company policies. They design and enhance business processes, leveraging automation, analytics, and digital tools to improve workflow efficiency and support evolving organizational needs. With a deep understanding of transactional data flow across large complex ERP systems and related sub-modules, the Accounting Manager ensures data integrity, system accuracy, and reliable financial results across complex operational environments. Deep understanding on SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) IT and operational controls and advance knowledge of writing and updating SOX controls workflows and narratives. This role also supports international accounting activities, including annual statutory audits, and coordinates with third-party accountants, external auditors, and the T-Mobile tax team to ensure compliance with local and global reporting requirements.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) within their accounting area, applying advanced technical, system, and business knowledge to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Oversees the preparation and review of complex accounting records, monthly close activities, and variance analyses, leveraging automation tools and analytics to drive efficiency and insight.
  • Skilled in managing and interpreting large volumes of transactional data, they connect operational drivers to financial outcomes, ensuring results are properly reflected in the financial statements and supporting analyses.
  • Performs second- or final-level reviews of team deliverables, providing constructive feedback, technical guidance, and informal coaching to enhance quality and consistency.
  • Using a broad understanding of accounting concepts, industry standards, and analytical methodologies, they identify issues, establish best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and reporting frameworks.
  • Leads analysis and interpretation of financial data, identifying trends, anomalies, and root causes through data-driven insights.
  • Evaluates and documents gaps or variances in accounting results and provides actionable recommendations to resolve discrepancies, enhance accuracy, and strengthen financial processes.
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of end-to-end accounting processes and integrated financial systems.
  • Develops and executes detailed test plans, performing regression testing and validation for new system functionality or enhancements that impact financial reporting and compliance with SOX controls.
  • Partners with technology and accounting teams to ensure changes are fully tested, documented, and seamlessly integrated.
  • Provides training and knowledge sharing on new functionality and updated processes to ensure operational readiness and adherence to financial close timelines.
  • Provides mentorship and technical guidance to Accountants and Senior Accountants, fostering skill development and consistency in accounting practices.
  • Leads departmental improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for automation, process optimization, and enhanced data integrity, driving continuous improvement across accounting operations.
  • Supports a variety of special projects and business initiatives as assigned by management, including merger and acquisition (M&A) activities, accounting process improvements, and large-scale technology initiatives such as large complex ERP upgrades or integrations.
  • Applies deep accounting and system expertise to assess impacts, define requirements, and ensure accurate and compliant financial outcomes throughout transitions and integrations.
  • Drives efficiency, automation, and digital advancement while maintaining strong internal controls and financial integrity across all initiatives.
  • Also responsible for other duties/projects as assigned by business management as needed
