Summary The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance and will conduct the day-to-day accounting activities of the organization. The Accounting Manager will supervise the Grants & Billing Specialist and the Accounting Associate, ensuring team cohesion and the pursuit of excellence. The Accounting Manager will also create systems and processes to ensure a smooth month-end close , abiding by the cost center and funding source char t of accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with at least 5 years of accounting experience in a non-profit environment , leading a small team.
  • Have a firm understanding of GAA P.
  • Familiarity with ‘best practices’ in a non-profit environment funded through cost-reimbursement.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office and Adobe (Acrobat Pro)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, exercise sound judgment, and be tea chable.
  • Ability to speak and write professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Face challenges with calm determination.
  • A self-starter requiring minimal supervision while simultaneously collaborating with team members.
  • Ability to handle sensitive material, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Execute job description with a customer service mindset.
  • Embrace the diversity of coworkers and foster a culture of inclusivity and acceptance.
  • Mobility sufficient to conduct regular duties within a normal office environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds in order to safely manage office supplies and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online is ideal, or any software with multiple segment reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a complete and accurate month-end close
  • Conduct regular reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Establish firm understanding of the cost center structure and conduct mini audits to ensure proper coding.
  • Allocate direct and indirect expenses as appropriate.
  • Prepare and post the payroll journal entry.
  • Timely amortize all prepaid expenses.
  • Prepare material accrual entries.
  • Review A/P & A/R (including cost-reimbursement sources) workflow.
  • Prepare for annual indepen dent audit and program audits from funding sources.
  • Assist the Director of Finance with required analyses.
  • Provide guidance to Grants & Billing Specialist and Accounting Associate in a collaborative manner.
  • Interface with Development Team regarding donor restriction and reconciling receipts.
