About The Position

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking an Accounting Manager who will be responsible for leading an accounting staff with the goal of providing accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting. Work closely with internal and external populations, representing the Agency to all constituents in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Agency. The hybrid work schedule is Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Five (5) years progressive professional accounting experience.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience or team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated accountability in researching, interpreting, and applying technical accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and applicable financial reporting standards.
  • Experience with financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply technical accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and effective exchanges.
  • Effectively manages multiple tasks, prioritizing, organizing, delegating activities, and escalating issues to Senior Financial Manger as appropriate to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to act with discretion, tact, and professionalism in all situations; maintaining good working relationship with internal stakeholders and external audit entities.
  • Utilizes effective conflict resolution skills to address issues and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Applies strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Requires proficiency in using computer systems and software to perform job function, including but not limited to, basic Windows PC, web browsing (i.e., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Advanced skill level is necessary for Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and participates in the development and implementation of accounting related goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of GAAP and the principles guiding funding source regulations and requirements.
  • Interprets and applies regulations where specific guidance is lacking.
  • Reviews revenue contracts prior to execution.
  • Initiates discussion with program or funding source, as appropriate, regarding concerns.
  • Directs maintenance of data and analysis on grants, awards, and other funding sources.
  • Prepares, manages, and reviews the monthly preparation of program financial statements, variance reports, reconciliations, aging and related reports, and analyses.
  • Ensure that potential issues are identified and addressed, including related adjustments including reserves and proposed write-offs.
  • Ensures timely distribution of reports to program management and other stakeholders.
  • Contacts, or coordinates with program management to contact funding agencies to pursue collection of accounts receivable.
  • Coordinates with program management and others, as necessary, to resolve issues preventing payment.
  • Coordinates and assists in development of program budgets, projections, and forecasts within established Agency budget timeline.
  • Collaborates with program and accounting management to develop sound financial plans reinforcing the provision of care and services that improve the lives of our clients.
  • Prepares, or assigns preparation of, external budgets supporting requests for both existing funding and potential new ventures.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors internal controls sufficient to ensure compliance with GAAP, federal regulations (2 CFR and other governing federal code), and other funding requirements.
  • Ensures maintenance of complete and organized files for assigned areas of accountability.
  • Updates and maintains policies and procedures documentation relevant to operations of assigned areas.
  • Prepares and reviews documents prior to submission for auditor review.
  • Collaborates with program management to address changing program needs and/or variances from budget in a manner consistent with both program goals and sound financial practices to achieve best possible client outcomes within funding constraints.
  • Responsible for managing and directing work of others, recruiting new hires, onboarding new staff, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Meets regularly with program management to review the status of the people Gallagher supports and the needs of the programs, contributing financial and operational insights that inform strategic planning and support aligned, person-centered decision-making.
  • Analyzes, forecasts, and assists in developing staffing schedules that balance cost management with service needs, providing guidance that helps optimize resource utilization and maintain quality care.
  • Maintains rosters of people supported for Gallagher programs, supporting data accuracy and partnering with program teams to ensure information is current and reliable for reporting and planning purposes.
  • Ensures accurate accounting for costs related to Gallagher HUD homes, records related intercompany transfer entries, and reconciles ACC activity to BCG, and BCI, contributing to reliable financial reporting and compliance across entities.
  • Oversees the accounting of Personal Use Funds, ensuring accuracy and proper balances are being maintained.
  • Collaborates with LTSS and Data Management team to promote complete and accurate iCM attendance and timely billing, supporting revenue integrity and minimizing billing discrepancies.
