About The Position

The Accounting Manager will oversee general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory accounting across multiple business units. This role involves preparing and reviewing financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate financial close processes, and assisting with annual budgets and forecasts. The manager will also support long-term financial planning, ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations, and maintain strong internal controls. Key responsibilities include coordinating year-end audits, supporting risk management, and preparing financial information for various stakeholders. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will supervise and develop accounting staff, assign work, set priorities, and foster a collaborative team culture, while identifying opportunities for efficiency and supporting system implementations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum 6+ years of accounting experience
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience in a co‑operative, retail, agriculture, energy, or member‑owned organization
  • Experience with inventory‑based accounting
  • Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards and taxation
  • Strong technical accounting and financial analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Leadership and people‑management capability
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and inventory accounting of multiple business units.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial close processes
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and period forecasts
  • Support long‑term financial planning aligned with the co‑op’s strategic goals
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and filing requirements
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
  • Coordinate year‑end audits and liaise with external auditors
  • Support risk management and fraud prevention initiatives
  • Prepare financial information for management, board, and members
  • Support patronage allocations, equity accounts, and member dividends (where applicable)
  • Ensure transparency and accountability consistent with co‑operative values
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff
  • Assign work, set priorities, and ensure deadlines are met
