Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 5 + years of experience in public accounting and/or industry. Insurance industry a plus
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word
  • Solid management or supervisory background
  • Strong ability to get things completed in the most efficient and effective manner possible
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Meticulous with excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc
  • Ability to work in time-sensitive environment with non-flexible deadlines
  • All candidates must have the ability to speak, read and write English

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license preferred
  • NetSuite experience preferred
  • Understanding of SEC filings and a strong foundation in US GAAP
  • Could involve some lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time without much movement

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of 2-4 direct reports responsible for general accounting functions
  • Assists with preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial metrics
  • Responsible for ensuring the accounting records are closed on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis in-line with the agreed upon close calendar
  • Responsible for timely and accurate internal monthly reporting requirements for financial metrics
  • Responsible for reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries/transactions ensuring the entries are accurate, balanced and contain appropriate back up
  • Responsible for reviewing all balance sheet reconciliations for applicable areas and creating checks and analysis to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the reconciliations
  • Approve/review vendor setups and changes in the ERP system
  • Review recurring and adjusting journal entries related to: Cash application (transfers, manual checks, vouchers), Notes Payable/Debt, Interest, Accruals, G&A expenses, Customer Acquisition Costs (CAC), Prepaids, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Capex, Equity and/or intercompany transactions
  • Review invoices to affiliated companies and outside vendors
  • Review accounting schedules (i.e. rollforwards, etc.) for internal and external reporting purposes
  • Supervising setting up new assets and schedules in the Fixed Asset Module for PPE and intangibles
  • Assist the Accounts Payable department with posting batches to the General and/or other related requests or projects as needed
  • Assist with any acquisitions-related transactions
  • Assist with external audit requests, as well as support special projects
  • Interact with external auditors and oversee applicable aspects of the annual audit
  • Apply innovative and controls-based knowledge to improve current processes
  • Communicate effectively with management and work closely with other departments, including cross training, as well as outside vendors
  • Recommend and drive continuous improvement through analysis and experience
  • Support compliance of all corporate policies and general procedure guidelines
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance professional development of staff
  • Additional duties as assigned
