About The Position

The Accounting Manager will oversee and manage the full spectrum of accounting operations within our real estate and rental leasing business, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of financial records, including bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and balance sheet preparation. The Accounting Manager will lead the job costing process to accurately allocate expenses and revenues to specific projects, supporting strategic financial decision-making. They will also be responsible for streamlining accounting systems, and implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and reporting quality. Ultimately, this position ensures that all financial activities align with regulatory standards and contribute to the company’s financial health and growth objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and full cycle accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in bank reconciliation, general ledger management, and balance sheet preparation.
  • Experience with accounting systems and job costing in a real estate or related industry.
  • Utilize bank reconciliation skills daily to ensure that all cash transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly resolved.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems is essential for managing the general ledger and automating routine processes, which enhances accuracy and efficiency.
  • Job costing expertise will be applied to allocate costs correctly to various real estate projects, enabling precise financial tracking and reporting.
  • A deep understanding of accounting principles and full cycle accounting allows the manager to oversee the preparation of financial statements and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills are employed to guide the accounting team, improve workflows, and support strategic financial planning within the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with real estate accounting software and ERP systems. AppFolio experience is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements specific to the real estate and rental leasing industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and implement accounting best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and balance sheets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare monthly owner distributions and security deposit refunds within required time frame.
  • Lead job costing efforts to track project expenses and revenues, providing detailed reports to support management decisions.
  • Maintain and improve accounting systems and processes to optimize efficiency and data integrity.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies during audits and financial reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and standards specific to the real estate and leasing industry.
