This role manages day-to-day accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and process improvements while supervising the Accounting Specialist. The qualified candidate will be a hands-on Accounting Manager with strong construction accounting experience to oversee the company’s financial operations and support business functions. Success in this role requires someone who is meticulous, forward-thinking, and driven to establish structure, enhance processes, and uphold accurate, well-maintained financial records. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-growing environment and wants to step into a future Controller role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Construction accounting experience required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, month-end close, GL management, variance analysis, and job costing.
  • Knowledge of California and Federal compliance requirements.
  • Experience in small to mid-sized companies with broad, hands-on responsibilities.
  • High level of organization, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with leadership.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll coordination, and supervision of the Accounting Specialist.
  • Manage month-end close, general ledger accuracy, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain clean, organized financial records and strong checks and balances.
  • Implement and refine processes for job costing and construction-related accounting workflows.
  • Prepare and deliver financial statements, reporting packages, and insights to leadership.
  • Monitor cash flow, expenses, and overall financial performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors and tax partners.
  • Partner with CPA/bookkeeper on financial reporting, tax filings, and compliance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support business operations through system optimization and process development.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including CPA firms.
  • Develop and maintain internal procedures, documentation, and operational standards.
  • Provide reporting and operational insights to support leadership decision-making.
