About The Position

The Accounting Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining systems and procedures for evaluating financial activities, managing audit schedules, preparing financial reports, and overseeing various financial programs. This role also involves managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, reviewing inventory transactions, and advising management on insurance coverage. Additionally, the Accounting Manager directs payroll functions, ensures timely commission payments, and supervises accounting employees and IT contractors. A strong understanding of food safety policies and procedures is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university.
  • 5-7 years of related experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of all levels of employees, vendors, and customers.
  • Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and percentages.
  • Ability to effectively operate a 10-key calculator.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • The ability to retain confidential information is critical.
  • The ability to work effectively in a Microsoft Windows environment (word, excel, various databases) and create and maintain spreadsheets is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain systems and procedures for evaluating financial activities.
  • Manage audit schedule for financial and 401(k) data and provide third party with details.
  • Prepare reports that summarize and forecast business activity and financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past and present.
  • Determine depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
  • Manage 401(k) and profit-sharing programs.
  • Manage expense account program.
  • Manage data and report as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Manage accounts payables. Review data for accuracy, correct data if necessary and post records. Create checks and manage payment to vendors.
  • Manage accounts receivable. Review data for accuracy, correct data if necessary and post records.
  • Reconcile bank statements to general ledger.
  • Review inventory transactions daily for items that look unusual. Work with appropriate departments to review and/or correct areas of concern.
  • Advise management about insurance coverage for protection against property, liability, workers compensation, losses and potential liabilities. Control related documentation.
  • Direct payroll functions. Review data for accuracy and make corrections as necessary.
  • Maintain records to ensure sales personnel receive their commissions in a timely fashion.
  • Train, assign and direct work, evaluate, reward and discipline accounting employees.
  • Assign and direct IT contractors work to ensure computer and network systems security and reliability.
  • Understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures.
  • Report problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager.
