About The Position

Manage the overall day-to-day activity of the office accounting department and provide oversight of all office accounting staff. This role reports to the Financial Manager, Operational Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field, and 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Thorough application of accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, general ledger).
  • Analytic ability to review and assess financial data, interpret trends, and recognize inconsistencies.
  • Understand accounting implications of various contract terms.
  • Demonstrates understanding of cash flows and implements procedures to optimize interest income.
  • Knowledgeable of policies and standards to ensure compliance while identifying financial risks.
  • Displays actions related to profitability and risk management and effectively communicates risk management issues.
  • Exercises independent judgment and discretion with the ability to identify problems and initiate corrective action.
  • Able to apply innovation to offer and implement suggestions to improve overall operations.
  • Ability to manage many activities, requests, and short-cycle deadlines simultaneously.
  • Able to observe performance and effectively provide performance feedback.
  • Proficient with financial system applications, MS Excel, and MS Office.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little or no supervision while working in complex and changing environments.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Some travel.

  • Construction industry experience preferred.
  • Supervisory/management of a small team preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create a supportive environment to develop a high-performing finance team, provide training opportunities, and engage in mentoring relationships.
  • Lead accountants and other related team members, provide timely performance feedback, and contribute to performance appraisals during the annual performance cycle, utilizing talent management systems.
  • Review quarterly account reconciliations and make recommendations for improvement to the Financial Manager.
  • Review monthly G&A monitor and assist the Financial Manager in updating the forecast.
  • Analyze and update the estimating recovery monitor and review with the Financial Manager and Chief Estimator.
  • Manage petty cash, payroll, and joint venture bank accounts and reconciliations.
  • Review and approve monthly journal entries.
  • Assist in the resolution of daily office issues, including vendor disputes, and escalate to the Financial Manager as appropriate.
  • Review all office contracts and lease agreements prior to submission to the Financial Manager for approval.
  • Ensure the builders risk log is complete and insurance coverage is in place.
  • Review and approve orders from external suppliers.
  • Review charitable contribution requests and ensure compliance with policy.
  • Perform other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
