About The Position

Bates Air Conditioning is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations for its Houston business unit. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced accountant who values ownership, process improvement, and supporting a growing business. The role reports directly to executive leadership and offers long-term career growth within a stable and expanding organization. Bates Air Conditioning has a strong reputation in the Houston market for dependable HVAC installation, maintenance, and service for over 60 years, serving office buildings, medical facilities, commercial properties, and industrial facilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close processes
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Hands-on mindset with the ability to solve problems and improve processes

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with job costing, WIP accounting, or construction accounting preferred
  • ERP experience such as NetSuite or similar strongly preferred
  • Background in construction, HVAC, mechanical contracting, or service industries highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly close process and general ledger activity
  • Oversee daily accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll support, and reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for leadership review
  • Maintain job costing, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition reporting
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Support annual audits, tax requests, and compliance reporting
  • Improve accounting procedures and reporting efficiency
  • Partner with operations leaders to monitor job performance and profitability
  • Help mentor and support accounting staff as the team grows
