Position Summary: The Mid-Level HVAC Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems & plumbing for commercial, industrial, and/or institutional facilities. This role involves independently managing HVAC & plumbing design tasks, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring systems meet performance, energy efficiency, code, and client requirements. This position will be full-time in-house position in East Granby, CT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–7 years of HVAC engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with HVAC design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HVAC load calculation software).
  • Strong understanding of thermal systems, fluid mechanics, and psychometrics.
  • Experience designing HVAC & plumbing systems for commercial or industrial buildings.
  • Ability to interpret and apply building codes and engineering standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with energy modeling or sustainable design (LEED, high-performance buildings).
  • Knowledge of building automation and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards and energy codes.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with healthcare, laboratory, data center, or mission-critical facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation, and control systems for new construction and retrofit projects.
  • Perform load calculations (heating and cooling), equipment sizing, and system selection.
  • Develop and review HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, and equipment schedules using CAD/BIM tools.
  • Develop and review plumbing layouts, sanitary & waste, venting, and domestic water.
  • Prepare construction documents, specifications, and design narratives for our estimating team to prepare a proposal for the account manager.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC, NEC, local building codes).
  • Coordinate HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction.
  • Support commissioning activities and assist with field inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate system performance, energy efficiency, and life-cycle costs.
  • Mentor entry-level engineers and contribute to technical reviews.
