About The Position

We are seeking an Accounting Manager to play a key role in Alnylam’s core accounting operations, including monthly close, audits, systems, and application of accounting policies in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This hands‑on role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally in a dynamic environment. Reporting to the Accounting Senior Manager, this position partners closely with the accounting team, internal stakeholders, and external advisors to help shape a high‑performing accounting function that supports the company’s growth. This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in public accounting (Big 4) and/or private industry required.
  • CPA license or completion of all CPA exams strongly preferred.
  • Global clinical accrual experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and familiarity with SOX compliance.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Detail‑oriented, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA license or completion of all CPA exams strongly preferred.
  • Global clinical accrual experience is strongly preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analytical reviews.
  • Support accounting for R&D accruals, including preclinical and clinical trial accruals.
  • Partner with FP&A to ensure actuals align with forecasts; reconcile U.S. GAAP versus management reporting variances.
  • Assist with technical accounting efforts, including preparation of accounting memos and implementation of conclusions.
  • Support external reporting by providing timely and accurate input to the SEC reporting team.
  • Ensure effective internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with SOX requirements; assist with new control design as operations scale.
  • Support improvement and building of appropriate systems and processes to facilitate timely and accurate monthly accounting and financial close process.
  • Contribute to improvements in accounting processes, systems, and close efficiency while maintaining high reporting quality.
  • Provide clear explanations of accounting results and adjustments to the Accounting Senior Manager to support the accounting close.
  • Support ad hoc projects and analyses, as needed.
