About The Position

Deepgram is seeking an Accounting Manager, GL & Close to manage complex aspects of their monthly close process and drive improvements as the company scales through its first external audit and towards public markets. This role reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer and will transition to reporting to the Senior Director, Accounting once that position is filled. The position is hands-on, focusing on technically challenging accounting tasks and developing team members. The successful candidate will be responsible for rebuilding the close process to incorporate AI, ensuring it can withstand an external audit, ERP migration, and SOX compliance while maintaining a lean team.

Requirements

6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Hands-on ownership of technical close areas (e.g., stock compensation, leases, capitalized software, payroll accounting).
Real experience reviewing another accountant's work.
Deep operational US GAAP fluency, particularly in capitalization judgment, equity compensation, leases, payroll and compensation, intercompany, foreign currency, and cutoff.
Ability to build a schedule from a blank page.
Hands-on ERP and systems experience.
Comfort with equity administration platforms (Carta or similar), payroll systems, close tooling (Numeric, FloQast, BlackLine or similar), and spend platforms (Ramp or similar).
Demonstrated AI-native working style, using LLMs daily on accounting work.
Reasoned, specific views on AI's trustworthiness in accounting close processes.
Experience building AI tooling that is in daily use by others.
Comfort 'vibe-coding' small scripts (Python, SQL, Apps Script) for automation.
Strong reviewer instincts that raise the quality bar and provide actionable feedback.
A builder's instinct with comfort in ambiguity and a bias to ship.
Strong written communication skills to explain financial variances and technical entries.
High integrity, high ownership, low ego.

Nice To Haves

Active CPA preferred.
Big 4 or national firm foundation a plus.
Experience preparing for or running a company's first external audit.
Experience implementing or migrating an ERP, especially off a small-business system onto a scale platform.
SaaS, usage-based, or AI infrastructure accounting experience.
Exposure to multi-entity and international intercompany accounting.
SOX control design and documentation experience, or a public-company close under your belt.
Experience working with an offshore or outsourced accounting team.
Reasoned views on the modern accounting stack (NetSuite, Rillet, Numeric, FloQast, Carta, Ramp).

Responsibilities

Push the close forward by owning critical-path workstreams, chasing open items, unblocking the team, escalating issues, and managing the calendar.
Prepare complex and judgmental accounting areas such as stock-based compensation, leases, capitalized software, payroll and compensation accruals, intercompany, and foreign currency.
Review established areas including fixed assets, prepaids, cash, recurring accruals, journal entries, AP, and expense reports, ensuring quality and providing constructive feedback.
Own the consolidation, close package, and variance analysis (month-over-month and budget-to-actual) with clear narrative explanations.
Manage and develop the Senior Accountant, set standards, delegate effectively for growth, and hire future accounting team members.
Act as a day-to-day owner in the company's first external audit, building PBC packages, running walkthroughs, and responding to auditors.
Design and document SOX-compliant close controls.
Own the close-process design, subledger and schedule migration, cutover reconciliations, and parallel-run validation for the ERP migration off Xero.
Rebuild the accounting work around AI, including reconciliation matching, anomaly detection, schedule generation, first-draft entries and flux narratives, PBC assembly, and workflow automation.
