About The Position

The Missoula Housing Authority (MHA) is offering a paid Accounts Payable internship for a student or early-career professional seeking hands-on accounting experience. The intern will work with the Finance team to learn the accounts payable process from beginning to end, contributing to an organization dedicated to providing affordable housing. This internship emphasizes genuine learning, with training and mentorship provided from the start.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in or recently completed coursework in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
Basic understanding of accounting principles.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and comfort learning new software.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.
Clear, professional written and verbal communication.
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take direction.

Nice To Haves

Currently working toward a Master's degree in Accounting (preferred).

Responsibilities

Review, code, and enter vendor invoices into the accounting system.
Match invoices to purchase orders and supporting documentation, and route invoices for approval.
Assist with preparing check runs and electronic payments under staff supervision.
Maintain vendor records, including collecting and filing W-9 forms.
Respond to routine vendor inquiries and help research and resolve invoice discrepancies.
Assist with reconciling vendor statements.
Scan, file, and organize accounts payable records in accordance with MHA records retention practices.
Support year-end 1099 preparation, month-end close, and audit requests as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
